Welcome to Friends of HSF
Our mission is to enhance the programs in the Honors, Scholars, and Fellows (HSF) house and enrich the lives of students and friends of HSF through financial and professional support. Friends of HSF is comprised of alumni and friends of the FSU Honors Program, Office of National Fellowships (ONF), and the Center for Undergraduate Research and Academic Engagement (CRE). Our vision is to unite our three departments through this membership model by providing educational, personal, and professional development opportunities.

Arthi Solayappan, UROP
Arthi Solayappan is the Editor-in-Chief of The Owl and the Assistant Director of the Student Council for Undergraduate Research and Creativity (SCURC). Through the publication of Volume 13 of The Owl, Arthi was able to help present a diverse range of exceptional research showcasing the dedication and commitment of Florida State’s undergraduate researchers. Arthi is also a policy researcher at the DeVoe L. Moore Center. Her previous work includes researching housing markets to promote policy ideas for affordable workforce housing. Last spring, she coauthored the Housing Affordability Report, which was posted in collaboration with the Florida Policy Project. Arthi is also currently working on getting her Research Intensive Bachelor’s Certification and working on an Honors in the Major Thesis with Dr. Driscoll.

Sommaiya Angrish
Sommaiya Angrish is a student studying Digital Media Production. He is part of the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) and the Global Scholars program. Through the Global Scholars program, he worked on a self-directed research project during the summer. He traveled both in the northern and southern parts of India and interviewed artists from all over regarding his topic of how environmental sounds can be used in musical connotations. He is from India and wanted to understand how different independent musicians use sounds to emote.
Sommaiya is now working on his Honors in the Major (HITM) project and will be travelling to San Francisco to work on his feature film idea with a program called Buildspace. He will then present his feature film as his HITM thesis using his musical sensibilities and recent research of how sounds can emote to create a film where music brings out the true essence of the story in the film.
