The Age of Information

The foundation of my creative process lies in my beginnings as a graphic designer. I discovered my affinity for art through logo creation, and I would carry these same principles of design into my studies as a fine artist. The characteristics I value most in my art are sleekness and precision, something I achieve through the use of bold black lines to contour, shade, and detail. I enjoy testing how much one can communicate an emotion or idea in the fewest amount of lines, and am interested in exploring the distinction between graphic design and fine art. I want to humanize the graphical artmaking process, and illustrate the multifarious ways technology has transformed our sociocultural perspective.

To express the topics and themes of my art, I choose to use both digital and analog techniques, often in the same work. All of my pieces are finished twice, once as a digital mock up, then executed with the use of flat brushes, chisel tip markers, or sculpting tools where I replicate the same qualities I admire in digital processes.

Artwork Description:

Today, false information spreads faster than ever in our AI-driven landscape, complicating how people discuss politics, health decisions, or even trust what they see or read online. This issue worsens with the development of AI generated video, prompting us to instinctively grow skeptical of what we see as reality. Age of Information commentates on this growing issue of online misinformation through the depiction of a warped Power Macintosh. The sculpture is designed to appear two dimensional, mimicking how one sees images through the screen of a computer. And to also represent how online information can be superficial, and lack depth. Age of Information further represents a technologically contorted worldview through the use of chrome vinyl wrap, allowing the viewer to observe a warped reflection of themselves, and the world around them.
